King of the Moutain!

This past weekend, the team met up with the offices in Chicago, Grand Rapids and Milwaukee for a snow tubing adventure! We competed against the other office in an endurance challenge.Image
The challenge was to test against one another to see who could loop the mountain the most times. Team members raced to the summit, hopped on a snow tube, and sped (up to 50 mph!) down the snow to reach the check point!Image
Our team, the purple team, did great! We had so much fun, but it was definitely a challenge! Afterwards, the team got together in the ski lodge to listen to a live band. It was a great time to interact with other offices and get to know each other!

Six Things Extremely Likeable People Do!

When you meet someone, after you’ve already asked “How are you?” “What do you do?” you’re out of things to say. You suck at small talk, and those can be a tough five minute to endure. This is especially awkward during interviews. At Bold, we are currently hiring for an entry-level position, and we’d like to give everyone a few tips on how to be a more likeable person!
You want to make a good impression. You want people to genuinely like you.
likeable
Lose the power pose.
I know, your parents taught you to stand tall, square your shoulders, stride purposefully forward, drop your voice a couple of registers, and shake hands with a firm grip.
It’s great to display nonverbal self-confidence, but go too far and it seems like you’re trying to establish your importance. That makes the “meeting” seem like it’s more about you than it is the other person–and no one likes that.
Next time you meet someone, relax, step forward, tilt your head towards them slightly, smile, and show that you’re the one who is honored by the introduction–not them.
Embrace the power of touch.
Touch can influence behavior, increase the chances of compliance, make the person doing the touching seem more attractive and friendly.
Go easy, of course: Pat the other person lightly on the upper arm or shoulder. Make it casual and nonthreatening.
Try this: The next time you walk up behind a person you know, touch them lightly on the shoulder as you go by. I guarantee you’ll feel like a more genuine greeting was exchanged.
Touch breaks down natural barriers and decreases the real and perceived distance between you and the other person–a key component in liking and in being liked.
Whip out your social jiu-jitsu.
You meet someone. You talk for 15 minutes. You walk away thinking, “Wow, we just had a great conversation. She is awesome.”
Then, when you think about it later, you realize you didn’t learn a thing about the other person.
Remarkably likeable people are masters at Social Jiu-Jitsu, the ancient art of getting you to talk about yourself without you ever knowing it happened.
Social jiu-jitsu is easy. Just ask the right questions. Stay open-ended and allow room for description and introspection. Ask how, or why, or who.
As soon as you learn a little about someone, ask how they did it. Or why they did it. Or what they liked about it, or what they learned from it, or what you should do if you’re in a similar situation.
No one gets too much recognition. Asking the right questions implicitly shows you respect another person’s opinion–and, by extension, the person.
Be genuine.
Everyone is better than you at something. Let them be better than you.
Don’t try to win the “getting to know someone” competition. Try to lose. Be complimentary. Be impressed. Admit a failing or a weakness.
You don’t have to disclose your darkest secrets. If the other person says, “We just purchased a larger facility,” say, “That’s awesome. I have to admit I’m jealous. We’ve wanted to move for a couple years but haven’t been able to put together the financing. How did you pull it off?”
Don’t be afraid to show a little vulnerability. People may be (momentarily) impressed by the artificial, but people sincerely like the genuine.
Be the real you. People will like the real you.
Ask for nothing.

You know the moment: You’re having a great conversation, you’re finding things in common… and then bam! Someone plays the networking card, and everything about your interaction changes.
Put away the hard-charging, goal-oriented, always-on kinda persona. If you have to ask for something, find a way to help the other person, then ask if you can.
Remarkably likeable people focus on what they can do for you–not for themselves.
“Close” genuinely.
“Nice to meet you,” you say, nodding once as you part. That’s the standard move, one that is instantly forgettable.
Instead go back to the beginning. Shake hands again. Use your free hand to gently touch the other person’s forearm or shoulder. Say, “I am really glad I met you.” Or say, “You know, I really enjoyed talking with you.” Smile: Not that insincere salesperson smile that goes with, “Have a nice day!” but a genuine, appreciative smile.
Making a great first impression is important, but so is making a great last impression.
Accept that it isn’t easy.
All this sounds simple, right? It is. But it’s not easy, especially if you’re shy. The standard, power pose, “Hello, how are you, good to meet you, good seeing you,” shuffle feels a lot safer.
But it won’t make people like you.
So accept it’s hard. Accept that being a little more deferential, a little more genuine, a little more complimentary and a little more vulnerable means putting yourself out there. Accept that at first it will feel risky.
But don’t worry: When you help people feel a little better about themselves–which is reason enough–they’ll like you for it.
And you’ll like yourself a little more, too.
So I hope that helped! Now, put those skills to the test! Get out there are meet new people! Also, if you’re interested in a business opportunity in the Indianapolis area, give me a call or shoot me an email with your resume attached. I’d love to talk to you more about the opportunity and let you put your new skills to the test!

10 Secrets to Success!

As BOLD is becoming increasingly successful, we started to look into the qualities that our employees possess that helped make this happen. Our recent growth and expansion has inspired us to share this knowledge!
Image
So here they are. TEN tips to help any employee, employer, or person seeking employment be successful in their field!

1. Maintain a positive attitude!
Think Success, not Failure. Beware of a negative environment.
This trait has to be one of the most important in the entire list. Your belief that you can accomplish your goals has to be unwavering. The moment you say to yourself “I can’t…”, then you won’t. I was always given the advice “never say I can’t” and I’d like to strike those words from the dictionary.
It’s okay to visit pity city, but you can’t stay, and there comes a time when you need to leave. Positive things happen to positive people.

2. Set achievable goals!
Write down your specific goals and develop a plan to reach them.
Write down my dreams and goals? Develop a plan to reach them? You mean like a project plan? Yes, that’s exactly what this means. You may have heard the old adage: A New Years resolution that isn’t written down is just a dream, and dreams are not goals.
Goals are those concrete, measurable stepping stones of achievement that track your progress towards your dreams. Make sure these goals are achievable, though. Only astronauts will fly to the moon.

3. ACT!
Goals are nothing without action.
Be like Nike and “Just do it”. Have you taken action towards your goals?

4. Never Stop Learning!
Go back to school or read books. Get training & acquire skills.
Becoming a life-long learner would benefit us all and is something we should instill in our kids. It’s funny that once you’re out of school you realize how enjoyable learning can be. What have you learned today?

5. Be Persistent!
Success is a marathon, not a sprint. Never give up.
I think every story of success I read entails long hard hours of work. There is no getting around this and there is no free lunch. But, if you’re working towards something that you’re passionate about, something you love – then is it really work?

6. Learn to Analyze Details!
Get all the facts. Learn from your mistakes.
You have to strike a balance between getting all the facts and making a decision with incomplete data – both are traits of successful people. Spend time gathering details, but don’t catch ‘analysis paralysis’.

7. Focus Your Time And Money!
Don’t let other people or things distract you.
Remain focused on your goals and surround yourself with positive people that believe in you. Don’t be distracted by the naysayer’s or tasks that are not helping you achieve your goals. This all goes back to maintaining a positive attitude.

8. Don’t Be Afraid To Innovate!
Be different.
Following the herd is a sure way to mediocrity. You’ll never be successful by being mediocre. Follow through on that break-out idea you have. Ask yourself “What would I do if I wasn’t afraid?”

9. Communicate With People Effectively!
Learn to understand and motivate others.
Successful people develop and nurture a network and they only do that by treating people openly, fairly and many times firmly. There is nothing wrong about being firm – just don’t cross the  line. How do you deal with people?

10. Be Honest And Dependable!
Take responsibility, otherwise numbers 1 – 9 won’t matter.
Enough said.

Fun in the Sun: A Little Rest and Relaxation in Miami

Every year, all managers across the nation are rewarded for their hard work with a tropical vacation. This year the managers headed down to the Eden Roc Renaissance Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.

Ashley D. Smith, President of Bold Marketing Strategies, traveled to Miami Beach, Florida last week to enjoy some fun in the sun, as well as networking with other managers, assistant managers and administrators. There were many different activities available to everyone including pool parties, jet skis, cornhole tournaments and a dodgeball tournament.

"The talent show was definitely the highlight of my trip," said Ashley. The company put together a talent show to help raise funds for Operation Smile. The acts included stand-up comedians, impersonations of Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” a pianist, and musicians of all kinds. The winner was an opera sing who blew everyone away with her beautiful voice.

Bold Marketing Strategies has the motto of, “Work hard, play hard.” That being said, everyone had a great chance to enjoy themselves but they were also able to do a lot of networking with other managers from across the nation. Ashley said the biggest thing she took away from the trip was, “Opportunity isn’t giving more, but it’s about getting better. People will do whatever to survive, but few will push themselves to get better and become more successful.”

Business is not only about professional growth but personal growth as well. All in all, the trip was a great success and we are looking forward to see all of our accomplishments throughout this next year and bring more managers along for the next R&R!

THE BUZZ ABOUT BOLD

According to employees at Bold Marketing Strategies, they seem to share a common goal; Growth! I analyzed the team to understand how Bold Marketing provides them the opportunity to reach their goals. The core of the marketing world is made up of people just like those working at Bold Marketing Strategies. Their common goals are to become part of the growth involved in business and their organizations.

For any company, advertisement is essential and Bold Marketing not only specializes in it, but their goal as well as their client’s is to grow. In turn, this offers the team the opportunity for entrepreneurial development and ongoing advancement.

The team at Bold Marketing Strategies is made up of driven individuals looking for a place that always opens doors to more enticing positions. Not only that, but team members at Bold Marketing Strategies, always have a reason to be excited. Whether it’s incentives like the chance to win a competition for a trip to a Sunday Night Football Game, a chance to earn a spot in leadership or the management team, just being high in rankings, or annual R&R vacations, they all look forward to the opportunity.

Needless to say, the team at Bold Marketing is made up of those who are competitive, look forward to being in an admirable position or they simply like the incentives. Their goal is to take advantage of the opportunity they are given to earn, win and succeed! Not many occupations or businesses offer these types of opportunities, which is why Bold Marketing is made up of a special team of aspiring colleagues.

On July 28th we attended the annual national conference held in Atlanta, Georgia. Managers and selected leaders from around the nation gathered to absorb knowledge and inspiration, network with others and kick back to have a good time. National Wrestling Champion Anthony Robles, was the key note speaker this year. Anthony shared with us his challenges of being born with only one leg and pursuing his dream of becoming an accomplished wrestler. He explained how he overcame the challenges he faced, without being discouraged even though others doubted him.  Anthony moved us with his astonishing biography. His story was enlightening and inspirational.

The conference was followed by a cocktail reception and award ceremony. A few of the awards given during the ceremony included Rookie Owner of the Year, who received an extreme office makeover by Michael Murphy and The Promoting Owner of the Year, who received an all inclusive trip for four to Belize. Each Manager also had a chance to announce the Top Leaders they selected. Congrats to everyone who received awards!

During the ceremony the organization made a goal to raise $200,000 to support the Operation Smile Mission. At the reception efforts were made to pledge towards the cause and together the pledges not only exceeded the goal, but raised more than $400,000! We are proud to support a great cause to make a positive impact on others lives. The weekend turned out to be very motivating and fun for all of us. We are already looking forward to next year!

BOLD Partners up to Mentor Indiana's Youth

This year Bold Marketing Strategies proudly joined with AIM-Aftercare for the Incarcerated through Mentoring. AIM is a non-profit youth service organization where mentors provide reentry support to incarcerated youths returning to communities throughout Indiana. Volunteers guide and inspire youth to pursue successful and productive futures where they reach their potential through self-development. The goal is to reduce the rate of recidivism among Indiana youth. Participating in the project is President of Bold Marketing Strategies, Ashley Smith, HR Manager, Carlina Mina, and select top leaders, which mentor in a series of life-skills and job readiness classes. We are eager to help our community and become a part of the organization!
